The mother’s role becomes more important than anything else. It shifts between wife, daughter, sister and job. During pregnancy, you cannot yet clearly imagine what your new mother role will actually be.

Your baby is your priority now, you  see everything from a mother’s perspective. Not the world around you has changed, but you!

You are now the mother of a beautiful child and while you are taking care of it nothing else matters.

You are happy to give everything for your well-being. But when the baby is asleep and you stand in front of the mirror, questions arise. 

Your dark circles are deep because you lack sleep. Your stomach hasn’t completely disappeared  yet and you still have too much weight.

Suddenly just mother.  The post-pregnancy period displaces all of our other roles.

You bravely open your closet, but your favorite trousers don’t fit you yet. You suddenly feel weak and want to cry.

You feel terrible, suffer from hair loss, have no time to care for yourself, and feel exhausted and misunderstood. 

Nobody showed you how to manage this situation. One always speaks only of motherly happiness and wonderful feelings,  but not of the fact that everything is not always so sunny. 

Over time, you will learn that  the carefree girl with no obligations will never return. 

How can you prevent negative feelings after having a baby?

In the post-pregnancy period, you need to realize that your old life is behind you.

The following recommendations can help you not to fall into postpartum depression, not to feel misunderstood and to enjoy the time after the birth of your child.

  1. You have to understand that your baby is a separate person, even if it is completely dependent on you at the moment. You both have different needs that need to be considered. 
  2. You cannot neglect your own needs. Take care of yourself, take time out and enjoy moments of solitude, even if they are brief.
  3. Accept that you have a right to time for yourself. You can meet up with your friends or go for a walk alone. A visit to the beauty salon is also worthwhile! It is important that you take time for yourself every now and then. So you are not an irresponsible mother.
  4. Perhaps you feel misunderstood by your man or you think he is not helping you enough. You both need time to adjust to the new reality. Talk to your partner about your expectations and insecurities.
  5. Bring in the whole family. Mothers prefer to do everything themselves that has to do with the baby. But this attitude will only lead to extreme exhaustion. It is best to accept your family’s help so that you have the time and space to yourself.
  6. Fight against discouragement and nostalgia. Make the most of your time to breastfeed and eat a healthy diet. You will reach your ideal weight again. The body you had before won’t come back on its own. You have to do something for it!

You have to appreciate the good things about your new life. Discover the world through your child’s eyes. You can prepare for this time during pregnancy and you will see: The love and strength of a mother is unique and it is worth it!
