But don’t forget that your child’s behavior is not trying  to annoy you or make fun of you.

It is a mostly unconscious strategy to avoid problems. It is a nervous laugh because children are not yet able to always control their emotions.

For the parents, however, this situation is frustrating. Because they feel like they are completely wrong and are getting nowhere. But you mustn’t lose sight of your goal: to teach your child, with a lot of love and patience, how to control their nervousness.

Your child doesn’t yet know how to best act in a discussion. Or how to take responsibility for a bad decision.

Just take a deep breath and sit down with your child. Explain to him why this reaction is uncomfortable and hurtful for others. It has to learn to deal with it better.

Tips for mothers

You should maintain good communication with your child and value honest conversations. Pay him attention and take time to address his concerns. Even if you disagree, you need to show your child that their problems are important to you.

If you made a mistake yourself, use the situation to teach your child  that honest words are the best way to make things right. Ultimately, you can only improve if you understand the mistake.

If you reacted too loudly,  explain to your child that it was wrong. Apologize, this is how it learns to react correctly itself.

Explain to your child why it is not right to laugh  when someone is speaking a serious word.

Of course you should be flexible. Listen patiently and come to an agreement.  Let your child express their opinion and lovingly ask them to change their behavior in the future.
